Collage for Creativity

I’ve been giving Artist Talks and Collage Workshops to students, to show the potential of collage for creative flow - not just for art but for any activity and learning.

Collage is a technique I have long since used to experiment in my art practice. Before this, my art was predominantly documentary photogaphy. It later evolved into experimenting with techniques such as hand painting black and white photography, photo transfer, Polaroid Manipulation and now, collage combining found imagery, pre-loved objects, textiles and techniques considered “women’s work”, such as sewing and embroidery. The work I create now blurs the borders of photography and the handmade.

Below are some works by year 12 and 13 students part of one of my recent Collage Workshops, experimenting with collage and found imagery, objects and textiles. The creativity was 👌🙌💪🌠. The take away..? Just make, have fun, keep creating even if is for 10mins today (that could lead to more). It doesn’t matter - just create!
