Photos behind the pieces

I am a bowerbird for art materials. Old photos, domestic objects, pre-loved items, pompoms, glitter and textiles, all of which I combine with collage and techniques traditionally considered "womens's work".

Below are some of the old and treasured photos behind my work - of my mum, being her 1970s self in Adelaide, Australia. Photos taken by my dad, who was a keen photographer.

I am not sure if other families have albums, drawers and box loads full of photos but I feel very lucky that mine do and it is an amazing time capsule of life in suburban South Australia from the 1960s onwards. It's also the perfect material for an art bowerbird🦜

Below is a selection of my favourite wall hangings that are part of my recent series, ‘No Wallflower’ . A series inspired by Suffragette banners and exploring motherhood, domesticity and sage advice handed down the generations.
