About the art this November

I am so excited to share that my work will be featured in 2 exhibitions this month! Three pieces have been selected for The Sussex 2025 at BN9 Studio in Newhaven and a further two will appear in The ING Discerning Eye 2025 at The Mall Galleries, London.

The works selected for The Sussex 2025 responded to the theme: L'art de la vie quotidienne: art of everyday life.

Upon seeing the set theme by The Sussex, I immediately knew my work from my ‘Play At Home Mum’ series would be a perfect fit.

I created the 'Play At Home Mum' series by giving myself these rules:

1) all materials used were to be found in a domestic setting (around the home);

2) vintage women's home magazines were to be used as a source of inspiration; and

3) making these pieces needed to involve daily play - ie just make and have fun without thinking of the outcome!

What resulted was a series touching on the responsibilities of adulthood, domesticity and motherhood, and an exploration into daily play - something we often forget to do as busy adults.

'SPLAT!' and 'The Cook' (below) from the ‘Play At Home Mum’ series are 2 of my 3 pieces part of The Sussex 2025.

My third piece in the show is ‘Enjoy Yourself’ (below) - a textile banner using found imagery, tassel fringing, hand applied glittery gold text and bubblegum pink hangings. This piece is from my ‘No Wallflower’ series inspired by Suffragette banners, Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management and sage advice passed down generations.

You can see The Sussex 2025 from 8 Nov! Further details below…

Date: 8th - 30th November 2025 Thursday - Sunday 10 am - 4 pm.

Where: BN9 Studio, The Marine Workshops in Railway Quay, Newhaven

You can also see more if my work at the ING Discerning Eye 2025 will open at The Mall Galleries, London, from 14 to 23 November.

It was another huge honour to be selected for this - from 6,500 entries - by a panel of six art world figures - Curtis Holder, Polly Morgan, Richard Ansett, Rosie Millard, Dr Chris Stephens, and Nicholas Scott. The exhibition offers a dynamic mix of styles, subjects, and media.

My work below, ‘Owner of Stuff’ is a unique (one-off) textile banner using an altered digital collage inspired by Italian playing cards that I always remember my Nonna having by her dining table. The edges of the cards, worn from constant use by the flow of visitors she would always have.

I applied hand beading and text, along with hand made heart shaped pom poms (of course!) and hooks made from clay wrapped in wool. This is the first time this piece has been exhibitied and I can’t wait to see it on the walls!

It will be accompanied by ‘High Hopes’ an archival print of a found photo with gelati-toned pom poms that I hand sewed to the print. It is postcard sized and feels like a real treasure as I glimpse into the photograph of these newly-weds and wonder about their high hopes for the future.

You can see these two pieces in the ING Discerning Eye from 14 November. Details below!

Date: 14 - 23 November 2025
